Information Technology
The Cybersecurity / IT program offers a comprehensive sequence of four courses designed to equip students with the academic rigor, technical knowledge, and practical skills necessary for success in postsecondary education and careers within the Cybersecurity / IT field. The curriculum, aligned with challenging academic standards, covers a broad range of topics, including cybersecurity, computer hardware, software applications, networking concepts and programming. Students will also explore various career pathways within the Cybersecurity / IT industry and develop essential workplace competencies.
Specialization opportunities, industry-recognized certifications, and Advanced Placement (AP) course options are available, enhancing both college and career readiness.
Course Sequence
9th Grade: IT Fundamentals
This course introduces students to the essential concepts, components, terminology, and knowledge about computers, computer systems, peripherals, and networks.
10th Grade: Computer and Network Security Fundamentals
This course introduces students to cybersecurity and provides them with essential computer and networking knowledge and skills, particularly those related to cybersecurity.
11th: AP Cybersecurity 2
AP Cybersecurity introduces students to the fundamentals of protecting computer systems, networks, and data from cyber threats. Students learn how to detect vulnerabilities, analyze security risks, and apply defense strategies used by cybersecurity professionals. The course also emphasizes ethical practices and real-world problem solving. Aligned with industry standards, the program prepares students for future certifications and careers in the rapidly growing field of cybersecurity as wella s an opportunity at College Credit.
12th Grade: Operational Cybersecurity
This course provides students with insight into the many ways in which computer systems can be secured, countermeasures implemented, and risk assessment performed.
