The Biotechnology Academy prepares university-bound students for STEM career majors including Pre-Med, Pre-Vet, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre- Food Safety Specialist, Agricultural Biotechnology Specialist, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Genetics, Microbiology and Immunology. Our advanced curriculum focuses on rigorous laboratory skills and problem based approaches that make learning fun. The Academy is housed in a state-of-the-art facility and is a certified National Career Academy Coalition program where students use the latest technology to hone their skills and prepare for rigorous college classes and work in laboratory facilities.

All students who successfully complete the Biotechnology program earn The Vocational Gold Seal and qualify for The Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars award or the Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholars award through the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program. Upon completion of the corresponding program coursework, students will have the opportunity to take the nationally recognized industry certifications: Biotechnician Assistant, AG Biotechnology Specialist, Food Safety & Science Certification, and Certified Food Safety Manager.

Course Sequence

9th Grade: Biotechnology 1
Students are provided exploratory experience which provides hand on laboratory and real-life applications to the field of Biotechnology.
10th Grade: Biotechnology 2
Students will apply the skills learned in Biotechnology I with an emphasis on the study of DNA and proteins. Scientific research is a major focus as well as hands-on laboratory and real-life applications to the field of Biotechnology.
11th Grade: Biotechnology 3
Students will engage in laboratory investigations of selected topics in biotechnology. Use of the scientific method, measurement, laboratory apparatus and critical thinking are an integral part of this course. Inquiry into current technology and applications of scientific principles and their relationship to society is encouraged.
12th Grade: Agricultural Biotechnology
This course will enable students to develop proficient knowledge and skills in the field of Agricultural Biotechnology.  Students will use higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, develop positive work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills occupation specific skills, and work
